Position Summary

The Assembler is responsible for accurately fulfilling customer orders by identifying, selecting, and assembling healthy, high-quality plants for shipment. This position requires knowledge of plant varieties, attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate plant health and maturity to ensure customer expectations and company quality standards are met. Assemblers transport completed orders to the designated dock area, where they are prepared for loading and delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review customer orders and accurately pull the correct plant material according to order specifications.
  • Identify plant varieties, sizes, and container types using labels, inventory systems, and company guidelines.
  • Evaluate plants to ensure they meet company quality standards, including proper maturity, health, appearance, and market readiness.
  • Reject plants that do not meet quality standards and communicate inventory concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assemble customer orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining plant quality.
  • Transport completed orders safely to the designated dock or staging area for shipping using tractors, trucks, and mules.
  • Organize assembled orders to ensure efficient loading and delivery.
  • Verify order accuracy before releasing products to shipping personnel.
  • Handle plants carefully to minimize damage during selection, transport, and staging.
  • Assist with inventory rotation and organization of growing and staging areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Operate carts, wagons, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist other departments as needed during peak production periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

  • Previous experience in agriculture, horticulture, nursery production, landscaping, greenhouse operations, or warehouse order fulfillment preferred.
  • Experience identifying plant varieties is preferred but may be learned through on-the-job training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to identify plant varieties and distinguish between similar products.
  • Basic understanding of plant health, growth stages, and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic math and counting skills.
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and rain.
  • Ability to safely operate carts and other material handling equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in greenhouses, outdoor growing areas, and shipping environments.
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, fertilizers, pesticides, and varying weather conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekends, and seasonal extended hours during peak production periods.
