McCall Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a full-time Utility Wildfire Mitigation Specialist to join our team.


Work location: Moncks Corner, SC

 

As a McCall-Thomas Utility Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, you will support wildfire mitigation, risk monitoring, and regulatory compliance programs across utility assets. Your focus will be on wildfire risk analysis, environmental monitoring, and asset vulnerability evaluation to minimize wildfire ignition risks and safeguard life, property, and critical infrastructure.

 

The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Support development and implementation of the utility’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) and Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).
  • Monitor and analyze weather conditions (wind, temperature, fuel sources, humidity, drought indices) that contribute to wildfire ignition risk.
  • Assist with evaluation of operational thresholds for de-energization, providing technical analysis and recommendations to senior staff.
  • Conduct continuous ongoing monitoring of weather circumstances, fuel sources, and right-of-way conditions impacting utility infrastructure.
  • Support wildfire response activities by providing technical data and situational awareness during events.
  • Identify potential ignition sources, fire spread risks, and exposure vulnerabilities affecting utility assets.
  • Use wildfire risk modeling tools and datasets to support risk analysis and mitigation planning.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and assist with the development of corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Assist with inspections, audits, and documentation required by Fire Commissions and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Track compliance items, corrective actions, and supporting documentation.
  • Support regulatory reporting related to fire protection and wildfire mitigation activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and wildfire response protocols.
  • Support coordination with internal operations teams and external fire agencies during planning, exercises, and incidents.
  • Participate in emergency drills, wildfire simulations, and readiness activities.
  • Apply basic understanding of Incident Command System (ICS) principles during response activities.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, risk assessments, and supporting documentation for wildfire programs.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to operations staff and project teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, safety, environmental, and planning groups to support integrated wildfire risk management.

 

What Will You Need:



  • Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Fire Science, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of experience in fire protection engineering, wildfire mitigation or risk management.
  • Experience supporting fire protection design reviews, inspections, or wildfire mitigation activities in an electric utility environment.
  • Working knowledge of wildfire behavior, fire science, and emergency response fundamentals.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.
