Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Lead Radiation Therapist, performs radiation treatment and simulation procedures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists instructions and departmental procedures. Provide thorough documentation of the simulation set-up and procedure information. Prepare and/or administer contrast. Prepare the treatment room and equipment for the patient according to the prescription and simulation. Communicates professionally with teammates and treats patients with empathy, understanding the challenges of the cancer journey. Follows all regulatory and center infection-control, patient-safety, and scope-of-work requirements.

1. Perform Simulation CT duties as required and directed by the attending physician and physicist. Is able to safely and accurately deliver oral, urethral and IV contrast and create immobilization devices required for accurate and reproducible treatment.

2. Attends daily huddle, discusses each case, understands directive, and assures orders and consents are signed and witnessed.

3. Provide the dosimetrist and radiation physicist with the treatment parameters necessary to complete calculations for treatment delivery.

4. Performs and documents daily warmups on simulator and treatment machine.

5. Educates patients prior to procedures and as needed. Assures patients understand procedures, duration and what to expect during and after.

6. Operate the linear accelerator, to deliver the prescribed dosage of ionizing radiation to patients undergoing therapy with accuracy and under minimal oversite.

7. Monitor patient visually and audibly during therapy procedures for any unusual reactions or events. Uses judgment and informs physicians when indicated by patient's condition, before proceeding with treatment or as required. Reports relevant information to designated supervisory personnel.

8. Reinforces physician and nursing instructions to patients.

9. Has robust understanding of EMR functionality and department workflows:

10. Works with patients to create treatment calendars.

11. Assures daily treatment and imaging is updated in the patient record.

12. Has a robust understanding of the EMR and clinical workflows:

  • Enters and completes QCL workflows and Assessment, including chart reviews and pre procedure time out.
  • Document’s notes regarding status changes and other pertinent information per policy.
  • Charges pertinent to care provided
  • Treat patients according to physician and physics guidance with efficiency and accuracy. Including advanced treatment modalities and software as directed.
  • Communicate and document deviations of prescriptions per center policy.

13. Perform Mold Room duties as required including constructing custom beam modification devices and dismantling and melting old blocks.

14. Mentors and trains new staff as assigned.

15. Follow all regulatory, quality control and infection control guidelines of the state and the center.

16. Monitor and adhere to all radiation safety procedures for the department. 17. Maintain all equipment in safe and satisfactory working condition, report defects or deficiencies for adjustment and repair, to the Lead or Oncolog Manager.

18. Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; stock and replenish supplies as required.

19. Participates in required staff meetings.

20. Maintain necessary education requirements for licensing while developing skills and knowledge.

21. Support an environment that fosters collaborative approach to patient care. 22. Communicate professionally and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, students, and the public.

23. Be a champion of the organization and the care we provide.

24. Perform other duties and tasks as directed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Program
  • New Jersey State License and ARRT
  • BLS certified

Pay Range: $45/hr - $60/hr

Pay Transparency: The above reflects the anticipated pay range for this position. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
