George Walton Academy (GWA) provides challenging instruction, engaging experiences, and global perspectives designed to inspire lives of intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose. GWA is an independent, Pre-K-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 62 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta.

George Walton Academy currently seeks a full-time Lead Chef. The Lead Chef manages overall kitchen operations. This includes assisting with menu creation, food preparation and staff supervision. The role requires culinary expertise, leadership and management skills to ensure exceptional service, maintain food safety standards and optimize efficiency of all aspects of foodservice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design meus based on seasonal availability, ingredient sourcing and community preference.
  • Supervise and manage kitchen staff including training and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure food quality, consistency and presentation in all foodservice areas.
  • Manage Inventory for all foodservice areas to include ordering supplies, minimizing waste and controlling food/beverage costs.
  • Maintain health, safety and sanitation standards according to Health Department regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service Director to ensure smooth service and satisfaction to our entire community base.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to encourage teamwork and foster development.
  • Engage with our community when appropriate to gather feedback and address opportunities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in a variety of cooking techniques and cuisines.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organization, communication and the ability to multitask.
  • Up to date knowledge of culinary trends, nutrition and dietary requirements.
  • Expertise in food safety, sanitation and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced kitchen environment and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of budget management, inventory and procurement processes.

Working Hours & Benefits:

  • Full-time position, 10-month employee
