The Department of Sociology, Human Services and Criminal Justice seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of either Assistant or Associate Professor.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Sociology, along with credentials or work experience in Human Services (including but not limited to social work, counseling, or therapy).  Qualified applicants should be prepared to teach a range of required courses in the Sociology and Human Services curriculums, including core Sociology classes as well as Human Services classes that focus on clinical skills.  Candidates with a background or specialization in Medical Sociology are especially encouraged to apply.  All candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates; experience teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Teaching load consists of a 4/4 schedule, or 12 credit hours a semester.

  • Faculty are expected to devote 60% of their time to teaching, and 40% of their time on scholarship and service.

  • Involvement in University committees as assigned by the Faculty Governance Structure, as well as service to the profession and the department.

  • Mentoring and advising a diverse population of students, including first-generation, non-traditional, and socio-economically challenged students.

  • Regular, predictable attendance on campus.

  • Alignment with the University's mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.

  • Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned.

 Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or Human Services.  Candidates with advanced degrees in related fields (such as Social Work or Counseling) may also be considered.

  • Teaching experience, especially university-level research methods, is preferred.

  • Commitment to actively support and advance student perseverance and success.
