Welder

The Welder is responsible for performing production welding and fabrication activities in accordance with blueprints, bills of materials, work instructions, quality standards, and established production requirements. The position requires the ability to perform welding across various stations and processes, accurately fabricate and assemble components, and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

The Welder is expected to develop proficiency across multiple welding and assembly operations and work independently as skills and qualifications permit. Employees may also assist in training other employees based on their experience and demonstrated qualifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform production welding, including cover welds and welding of CA and TA components.

• Set up fixtures and welding equipment and complete welds in accordance with work instructions and production specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, weld symbols, and work instructions.

• Correctly identify and use required CA and TA components.

• Fabricate covers and other components accurately to specified dimensions and requirements.

• Perform welding at various production stations, including positioner, compression, leg, and pad operations, as qualified.

• Perform MIG/MAG welding and other required welding processes in accordance with established specifications.

• Perform TIG welding and associated repair and rework as required.

• Perform plasma cutting and other fabrication activities as required.

• Pass applicable weld qualification tests, including .035” wire, .052” Metal Core, and SMAW testing, as required for assigned work.

• Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure they meet established quality and dimensional requirements.

• Identify and correct weld defects, fabrication issues, and other quality concerns within the scope of the position.

• Perform rework and repairs as necessary to meet quality specifications.

• Use appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to verify dimensions and workmanship.

• Maintain high standards of quality, productivity, safety, and housekeeping.

• Follow all established safety procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and company policies.

• Obtain and maintain required overhead crane certification and safely operate the crane when authorized.

• Properly use and maintain welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and PPE.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

• Demonstrate the ability to work independently and across multiple welding and assembly operations as skills and qualifications develop.

• Assist with training other employees as experience and qualifications permit.

• Communicate production, quality, equipment, or material concerns to the Supervisor or Team Lead.

• Work cooperatively with production, quality, maintenance, and other departments to meet production requirements.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Lead.

Position Requirements

• Previous welding or manufacturing experience preferred.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, weld symbols, and work instructions.

• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to accurately identify components and materials required for assigned work.

• Ability to use basic measuring and inspection tools.

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements.

• Ability to safely operate welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

• Ability to maintain consistent quality and productivity standards.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain required certifications.

Preferred

• Previous production welding experience.

• Experience with MIG/MAG, Metal Core, TIG, and/or SMAW welding.

• Experience with plasma cutting and metal fabrication.

• Experience working with fixtures, jigs, positioners, compression equipment, or similar production welding equipment.

• Formal welding training or welding certification.

• Experience reading detailed engineering drawings and weld symbols.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift.

• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in various positions.

• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials and components as required.

• Ability to use hands and fingers to operate welding equipment, tools, and controls.

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, heat, sparks, noise, dust, and moving equipment.

• Ability to wear required PPE, including welding helmet, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, protective clothing, and safety footwear.

Work Environment

The Welder works in a manufacturing and production environment and may be exposed to welding fumes, heat, sparks, noise, machinery, and other typical manufacturing conditions. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and use required PPE at all times.
