Building the Future from Circuit to Code

We’re seeking a hands-on, highly inventive Electrical Systems Engineer to architect, build, and bring sophisticated, embedded products to life. This is a role for someone who enjoys owning the entire engineering journey—from first system concept and schematic through custom PCB design, firmware development, bench bring-up, and manufacturing support.

You’ll work at the intersection of electronics, embedded software, optics, sensors, communications, and mechanical integration. One hour you may be optimizing a multi-layer board layout; the next, debugging firmware over SWD, reworking a fine-pitch component under a microscope, or validating real-time signals on an oscilloscope. If you thrive on turning complex ideas into reliable physical systems, this is an opportunity to make a direct, visible impact.

ChromoLogic LLC (www.chromologic.com) is a world-class innovation center with advanced scientific research and development in the medical, aerospace and security markets.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect complex embedded electronic systems from product requirements through production-ready designs
  • Execute schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout using Altium, KiCad, Eagle, or comparable EDA tools
  • Develop, debug, and maintain production-grade embedded firmware in C/C++
  • Design firmware using bare-metal scheduling and RTOS-based architectures for microcontrollers including ARM Cortex, STM32, AVR, PIC, or similar platforms
  • Build and physically assemble functional prototypes—including fine-pitch SMD soldering, rework, wiring, cable crimping, enclosure integration, and lab-bench testing
  • Lead initial board bring-up, diagnose hardware/firmware interactions, and resolve system-level issues efficiently
  • Analyze digital and analog signals in real time using JTAG/SWD debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and related test equipment
  • Integrate and validate communication interfaces such as BLE, CAN Bus, SPI, I²C, UART, and USB
  • Select and qualify components with an eye toward performance, availability, reliability, manufacturability, board area, and bill-of-materials cost
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, optical, manufacturing, and product teams to deliver robust, scalable products
  • Create clear engineering documentation, including design specifications, schematics, layout files, test procedures, firmware documentation, and manufacturing packages
  • Support prototype builds, design verification, production ramp, supplier communication, and field issue resolution

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 5+ years of multidisciplinary experience spanning embedded hardware, PCB design, firmware, and prototype development
  • Demonstrated ability to move seamlessly from firmware development or PCB routing at a workstation to soldering, reworking, assembling, and probing hardware on the bench
  • Comfortable owning every stage of product delivery: system specifications, architecture, custom electronics, embedded firmware, prototype testing, design verification, and manufacturing support
  • Deep practical intuition for how electronics, low-level software, optics, sensors, power systems, communications, and physical assemblies interact in real products
  • Strong experience with microcontroller-based systems and hardware debugging
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded applications
  • Familiarity with PCB stack-up planning, high-speed or mixed-signal layout practices, grounding, power integrity, EMC-minded design, and design-for-manufacturing principles
  • Methodical troubleshooting mindset, strong attention to detail, and the persistence to chase down intermittent failures and edge cases
  • Able to communicate complex technical decisions clearly across engineering and non-engineering teams

What Makes This Role Exciting

This is not a narrow design-support position. You will have real ownership over the systems you create and the satisfaction of seeing your work move from a schematic or firmware branch into a working, manufacturable product.

You’ll be empowered to experiment, prototype quickly, solve challenging cross-disciplinary problems, and help define the technical direction of products where exceptional engineering makes the difference.
