Surgical Dermatology Group, an AQUA Dermatology portfolio practice, is one of the largest and most comprehensive full-service skin care providers in the Southeast. It offers medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, plastic surgery, vein care, and radiation oncology.


This position will work with an assigned doctor during Mohs procedures. Duties include Mohs histology procedures, tracking of all submitted Mohs specimens for processing and diagnosis, and the necessary recording of Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the Mohs Lab.

 

Responsibilities:

    • Is responsible for specimen handling, storage preservation, and identification; freezing tissue and cutting frozen sections with a microtome; staining and placing tissue on slides; and prepping reagents. 
    • Is responsible for the disposal of stains and the upkeep of the work area. 
    • Keeps equipment operational by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns. 
    • Updates OSHA and CLIA records. 
    • Maintains patient identification. 
    • Documents in EMR as appropriate. 
    • Troubleshoots issues with fellow technicians and resolves any problems by examining and evaluating data, and selecting appropriate corrective steps. 
    • Conforms to all applicable HIPAA and safety guidelines. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • Full-Time
  • Monday - Friday 6- 4 pm, 4-10-hour shifts
  • DAILY Travel is required:  Birmingham/Huntsville/Montgomery/Dothan - NO OVERNIGHTS

LOCATION - Montgomery, with travel to Dothan


QUALIFICATIONS

Education -  GED/High School Diploma

Experience – Experience in a CLIA-certified laboratory setting (Preferred). 1-2 years of experience in skin pathology or as a histo-tech (Preferred)

Familiarity with common medical terminology

Communication – Excellent oral communication skills; communicates effectively. Bilingual is not required, but preferred.

Work Style - Must be able to work well independently but ask for help when needed, analyze and interpret information, and interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically.
