Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months, a point level </= 6 attendance points and 6 months in current area unless the TM is promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable. 

Location: Kentucky Farms, Monticello, KY

Schedule:  Typically, Monday – Friday

Hours: Typically day shift hours.  Averages 40 hours per week. 

Work schedule is based upon production needs.

                   

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for collection and submission of all samples required for laboratory analysis. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved to drive a Company vehicle, per the Transportation Department.
  • Experience:  QAS, Excel, Word and Outlook experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drag approximately 80 chick boxes at placement.  Tag and certify 270 female birds and 30 male birds and up to 40 PCR’s and 12 drags per flock at 18 weeks of age (20%).
  • Collect 12 blood samples, 12 drag swabs and 30 PCR’s at 11 weeks of age, collect 30 blood samples, up to 8 drag swabs and up to 80 PCR’s at 34 weeks of age and collect approximately 50 drag swabs per farm during house clean out (25%).
  • Beginning at 21 weeks of age, must be able to perform simple math to collect up to 80 PCR’s and up to 8 drag swabs every three weeks until the end of the flock and at the end of the flock, collect 6 fat samples, 30 blood samples, 8 drags and 40 PCR’s per flock (45%).
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain a respirator certification: Team Members must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours.

Other Duties, Responsibilities and Activities

  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.  Such as:  Must be able to read and write to complete laboratory submission paperwork, entering data into QAS, packaging and shipping lab samples to the appropriate lab, properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy, cleaning QA Facility, doing laundry, picking up supplies and observing contract catch crew to make sure all Animal Welfare guidelines are being followed.  Perform drab swabs weekly on Wash Crew equipment and monthly on QA Facility and company vehicles.  Weekly drag samples for international orders, per the QA Department (10%).

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.  Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques.  Must regularly lift a stack of three chick boxes weighing approximately 36 pounds.  Must regularly pick up birds weighing up to 10 pounds.  Must be able to obtain forklift certification.  Must be able to bend up to pick up birds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
  • Tools and Equipment:  Forklift, power tools, coops and syringes
  • Environment:  Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles (as needed), chemical gloves (as needed) and rubber boots are required.  Ear plugs will be used as needed.  NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.  Safety glasses are required.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  Disinfectants and foamers.
  • Safety: Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety policies.  Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.  These include, but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.  Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
