The Pharmacist operates under the direction of the JMH Director of Nursing. The Registered Pharmacist is responsible for age-appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of medication therapy for patients of JMH, and related functions, and for assuring that these services are delivered in a safe and cost-effective manner in accordance with JMH Mission/Vision/Value Statements, JMH Policies/Procedures, JMH Pharmacy Vision/Philosophy Statement, JMH budgetary parameters, and applicable industry/regulatory standards.


Consistent performance of required duties in reviewing aspects of medication ordering and prescribing, performing and reviewing preparation and dispensing activities, providing input to medication administration processes, and providing Pharmacy services to assist in the monitoring of the overall patient medication therapy. These activities include use of internal Pharmacy Department systems, communication regarding drugs and drug therapy, screening physician’s orders for problems and taking required actions, strictly following Pharmacy Law, strictly following JMH Confidentiality Policy and other policies, and providing supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, adheres to hospital Billing/Legal Compliance requirements.


REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Must have B.S. Pharmacy degree or Pharm. D. degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Experience as a registered pharmacist in a healthcare setting is desirable, but not required.


  1. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Must be licensed/registered as Pharmacist with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy. Renewal, including at least 30 hours of approved Continuing Education, required every 2 years.


  1. ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Must be able to understand and solve pharmaceutical problems, ranging from simple calculations to assessment of complex drug therapies.


  1. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Interaction is with nurses, physicians, and other JMH staff.


  1. VERBAL/COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to read, write, hear/interpret, and speak the English language with sufficient skill to perform required duties.


  1. ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Must have hand-eye coordination and dexterity sufficient to perform required duties.


  1. ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Must be knowledgeable and able to perform required duties. Mental demands are intense, and attention to detail is essential.


  1. ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Must have visual, auditory, and tactile abilities sufficient to perform required duties.


  1. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have sufficient mobility, strength, and agility to perform required duties. Lifting IV/Irrigation fluid cases and wholesaler toteboxes are examples of activities which are part of required duties.


  1. EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Must be aware that exposure to chemotherapy drugs and other potentially harmful drugs and chemicals is a potential hazard of this job.


  1. OTHER: Must maintain Continuing Education for continued licensure as Pharmacist as per Georgia State Board of Pharmacy requirements, and furnish proof of same to JMH.
