Summary of Position:
Incumbent oversees and advises on all aspects of the department's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and departmental standards. This position serves as the primary contact on EMS operations, quality improvement, budgeting, staffing, equipment management, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include developing and implementing EMS policies and procedures, overseeing patient care documentation and continuous quality improvement initiatives, managing controlled substance and infection control programs, coordinating training and certification requirements, maintaining medical equipment and supplies, and serving as a liaison with hospitals, medical directors, regulatory agencies, and legal representatives.Â
This individual will also participate in activities including firefighting, emergency response, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue as needed.Â
Minimum Requirements:
- Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills
- Knowledge in policies, procedures, Rules and Regulations of Connecticut Emergency Medical Services
- Ability to safely and efficiently use emergency medical equipmentÂ
- Proven ability to apply management and leadership principles and techniquesÂ
- Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Education, Experience and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in EMS, Fire Science or related field, and
- Five (5) years’ leadership experience in emergency medical services

- Associate’s degree in Fire Science or related field, and
- Six (6) years’ leadership experience in emergency medical services
~ OR~
- High school diploma or equivalent, and
- Eight (8) years’ leadership experience in emergency medical services

- Five (5) years of active Paramedic field experience
- Experience in EMS quality improvement and training
- Certifications and Licenses
- State of CT Paramedic
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
- State of Connecticut EMS-Instructor
- Haz-Mat Awareness
- Incident Command 100, 200, 700, 800
Additional Requirements:
- Must maintain sponsor hospital medical control credentials
- Facial hair must not interfere with a respirator maskÂ
- Must pass a medical examination annually, including a respiratory test
- Must perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, strenuous or peak physical efforts during emergencies, training or station maintenance activity for a prolonged period of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke
