Job Description

Team Penske is seeking a talented and motivated Composites Engineer to join our engineering group. This role is critical in the design, analysis, and manufacturing of high-performance composite components that directly impact our on-track success across all of our racing series. The Composites Engineer will collaborate across design, manufacturing, and technical partner teams to ensure that components meet stringent performance, safety, and quality standards while driving continuous innovation in materials and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design composite race car and support equipment components for use in all of Team Penske racing series.
  • Select and specify appropriate composite materials based on performance, durability, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Perform structural calculations, FEA, and simulations to ensure the integrity and safety of components.
  • Develop manufacturing plans and collaborate with shop floor personnel to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
  • Generate detailed engineering drawings, laminate specifications, and supporting documentation for production.
  • Create and execute test and validation plans to confirm material and component performance.
  • Review and provide engineering input for composite repair procedures.
  • Stay current with emerging composite technologies, best practices, and manufacturing techniques to continuously improve processes.
  • Establish and maintain technical and manufacturing standards for the Composite Shop and other departments within Team Penske.
  • Manage and maintain the engineering composite materials database, including prepregs, cores, adhesives, and compliance documentation.
  • Partner with OEMs to review designs, validate manufacturing processes, and ensure components meet Team Penske’s requirements.
  • Research advanced materials for new applications in motorsports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to material failures or process inefficiencies by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with technical partners to maximize performance and value of partnerships, including participation in technical reviews and marketing events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 1–5 years of professional experience in composite design, manufacturing, or engineering.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and surfacing, experience with Siemens NX is a plus. 
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with structural analysis methods.
  • Hands-on understanding of composite manufacturing techniques and shop processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical groups.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to continuous improvement.
