Position Overview:

The Auto Body Prep Technician is responsible for preparing parts for paint, ensuring surfaces are properly prepped, and supporting the overall refinishing process. This role requires knowledge of surface preparation, masking, sanding, and the application of primers and coatings.

Key Responsibilities:

Operates and uses all painting equipment in accordance with safety standards
Prepares surface for bonding and aesthetics.
Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
Fills cavities with putty to attain smooth surface.
Knows how to properly sand, featheredge and prep for paint.
Mixes primer, paint and surface treatments in accordance to specifications.
Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color.
Inspects primed / painted units for quality of workmanship.
Look for ways to improve and promote quality, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback.
Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
Keeps work area clean.
Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
Consistently utilizes all required safe equipment and follows proper refinishing procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines.
Adheres to all requirements hazardous waste disposal.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in auto body preparation or a related field.
Must be able to pass required respirator fit testing and remain clean-shaven in areas where a tight-fitting respirator seals to the face, in accordance with OSHA standards.
Must be able to wear a tight-fitting respirator for the duration of the assigned shift, as required by the position.
Successfully complete all applicable respiratory protection requirements, including a medical evaluation and respirator fit testing.
Complete annual fit testing, with additional medical evaluations as required.
Knowledge of various painting techniques and surface preparation.
Ability to use hand tools and mechanical equipment, including sanders, grinders, and spray guns.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Familiarity with automotive painting processes, including primers, base coats, and clear coats.
Ability to read and interpret repair orders, blueprints, or diagrams.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and procedures in an auto body repair shop.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and work in various physical conditions.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident in compliance with ITAR regulations.

Hours of Operation:

1^st Shift 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 2^nd Shift 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM; Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends, overtime, and holidays as scheduled by leadership.

Performing work that requires hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the handling of small parts or components.
Working around moving mechanical equipment and in areas with varying noise levels, temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, dust, chemicals, or other manufacturing-related conditions.
Wearing required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective footwear, respirators, or other designated PPE.
Using close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus when required by the position.
