Your Impact

The Sr Engineer, Packaging Innovation & Development will lead the creation of cost-effective, sustainable and structurally sound packaging for Lowe's Private Brands products sold in-store and online. This role supports over 400 product groups across Home Décor, Hardlines and Building Materials, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to deliver innovative packaging solutions aligned with visual, cost and sustainability goals. The Sr Engineer will develop prototypes and final packaging designs that meet corporate sustainability commitments.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the structural design and revision of packaging concepts across assigned Lowe’s Private Brands categories, delivering innovative, right-sized and cost-effective solutions that align with brand strategies and product requirements.
  • Develop plans for new and refreshed packaging systems, validate solutions and implement rollouts.
  • Support corporate sustainability goals through the development of consumer-facing and supply chain packaging that reduces material use, incorporates recyclable content, and aligns with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) regulations. Maintain knowledge of evolving laws and industry initiatives impacting packaging design and compliance.
  • Partner with the quality assurance team to define packaging specifications, maintain product protection through the supply chain, and ensure structural integrity through proper material selection and vendor compliance.
  • Participate in product commercialization timelines and coordinate execution with the packaging operations team.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and domestic and international vendors to deliver packaging solutions that support business priorities.
  • Establish strategic relationships with suppliers to drive innovation, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive benchmarking and market research, including frequent store walks, to identify emerging packaging trends and opportunities for innovation.
  • Support the collection and organization of packaging data at the SKU level, including weights, dimensions, materials, print styles and packaging processes, to enable data-driven design decisions and performance tracking.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging design, packaging engineering, industrial design or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable
  • 7 years of experience in packaging development
  • Proven experience with packaging materials and related technologies
  • Experience in and understanding of the entire packaging design process from concept, prototype, testing and production
