Job Summary/Objective: This position involves receiving, inspecting, documenting, and organizing incoming shipments of goods and materials. The primary objective is to ensure the accurate and efficient receipt of products, maintain inventory records, and contribute to overall operational success.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Receive incoming shipments, deliveries, and packages from suppliers, carriers, or other sources.
- Inspect shipments for accuracy, completeness, and quality, ensuring they match the accompanying documentation.
- Report and document any discrepancies, damages, or defects immediately to the appropriate department or personnel.
- Accurately record and document all received items, including quantities, descriptions, serial numbers, and any other relevant information.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date receiving records and files.
- Generate and maintain purchase orders, packing lists, and invoices for verification and reconciliation purposes.
- Ensure the timely and efficient transfer of received goods to the appropriate storage locations.
- Update inventory databases or systems to reflect accurate stock levels.
- Monitor and report on inventory levels and reorder points, assisting in managing stock replenishment.
- Collaborate relevant departments to coordinate receiving schedules and resolve any issues.
- Communicate with suppliers and carriers to resolve delivery discrepancies or issues.
- Assist in the coordination of returns, exchanges, or replacements when necessary.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices in handling and storing incoming materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized receiving area.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
- Experience: Proven experience as a Receiving Clerk or in a similar role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Proficiency in using computer software, including inventory management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures, best practices, and safety guidelines.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy items and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with forklift operation and certification may be required in some settings.
Physical Requirements: Information about the work environment, including potential physical demands or conditions that the employee might encounter.
- Lift and carry boxes, crates, or materials of various sizes and weights. The ability to safely lift and transport moderately heavy items is typically required. This could range from 50 to 75 pounds.
- Standing, walking, and moving around the receiving area, warehouse, or storage facility.
- Bending, stooping, and reaching to access items on shelves or pallets.
- Pushing or pulling carts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks loaded with materials required.
- Handle small parts, labels, and paperwork. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are essential for tasks like inspecting items, completing paperwork, and using inventory management systems.
- In some cases, climb ladders or use other equipment to access high shelves or storage areas.
