Position Summary

The House Manager (House Supervisor) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an assigned residential recovery home and ensuring a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment for program participants. The House Manager provides supervision, mentorship, and accountability to residents while ensuring compliance with program policies, organizational standards, and applicable state regulations.

This position plays a critical role in supporting participants in their recovery journey by modeling appropriate behavior, maintaining program structure, and ensuring adherence to house rules and recovery programming requirements.

House Managers are expected to reside in the assigned residence during designated overnight supervision hours to ensure participant safety and program accountability.

Overnight supervision schedule:

  • Monday - Friday: 2:00 PM – 6:00 AM
  • Saturday - Sunday: 7:00 AM – 7 AM

Additional daytime supervision, meetings, and administrative responsibilities are required as directed by program leadership.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Residential Supervision and Operations

  • Oversee the daily activities and operations of the assigned recovery residence.
  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to participants residing in the home.
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and recovery-focused living environment.
  • Enforce house rules and program expectations consistently and fairly.
  • Ensure the residence remains clean, organized, and properly maintained by participants.

Recovery Support and Mentorship

  • Serve as a positive role model for recovery-oriented behavior.
  • Provide mentorship and peer guidance to residents as they progress through the program.
  • Assist participants in developing accountability, life skills, and healthy recovery habits.
  • Encourage participation in recovery activities and programming.

Meetings and Program Activities

  • Facilitate a minimum of three weekly house meetings (at your discretion).
  • Each morning, start day off with morning meeting (topic is house manager discretion).
  • Support additional classes, recovery meetings, or program activities as directed by program leadership.
  • Ensure residents attend required program activities, classes, and appointments.
  • Ensure participants attend community meetings, consistent with program expectations.

Participant Accountability

  • Maintain accurate In/Out logs to account for participant whereabouts.
  • Maintain and distribute medication and housing binder for residential program clients. 
  • Ensure participants comply with curfews and program schedules.
  • Conduct random and scheduled drug and alcohol screenings as directed by management.
  • Conduct weekly room inspections to ensure compliance with house standards.
  • Conduct weekly medication counts for non-narcotic medications and document on medication tracking sheets.

Medication Monitoring

  • Ensure medications are properly documented and counted weekly.
  • Maintain medication tracking sheets and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Report discrepancies or concerns to program leadership immediately.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate documentation and submit required paperwork in a timely manner, including:

  • Request forms
  • Client work schedules
  • Medication tracking sheets
  • In/Out logs
  • Housing and or vehicle tracking sheets
  • Anything else as needed

All documentation must be submitted by Monday morning (if applicable).

Transportation and Scheduling

  • Coordinate or arrange transportation for residents to required appointments, classes, employment, or program activities when necessary.
  • Ensure participants arrive on time for all required program functions.


Resident Admissions and Dismissals

  • Assist the Program Manager with the dismissal of participants when required.
  • Supervise participants while they vacate the residence to ensure a safe and orderly departure.

Health and Safety Monitoring

  • Ensure clients’ health is routinely monitored and communicate if not.
  • Report any health concerns or positive symptom screenings to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards within the residence.

Facility Management

  • Ensure essential household supplies, hygiene products, and program materials are available.
  • Monitor and manage the house food system for assigned residents.
  • Ensure access to the residence is controlled and secure.

Disaster Response Responsibilities

House Managers may be called upon during natural disasters or community emergencies to assist with operations supporting the citizens of our community. When required, emergency response duties may take precedence over routine program responsibilities.

Programming Compliance

The House Manager must operate the residence in accordance with:

  • North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS)
  • Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services
  • Supervised Living – Low Environment program standards
  • Applicable state and federal behavioral health regulations
  • Organizational policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The House Manager must demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mentor individuals in recovery
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to enforce rules and program expectations consistently
  • Situational awareness and sound judgment when addressing behavioral or safety concerns
  • Ability to work effectively with program leadership and clinical teams

The House Manager must also demonstrate the ability to guide and instruct residents in a manner consistent with:

  • LME/MCO requirements
  • State and federal behavioral health regulations
  • Organizational policies and procedures

Minimum Education and Experience

Applicants must be able to:

  • Read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with APSM 30-01 and 10A NCAC 27G.0202(a)(2)

Prior experience in:

  • Recovery support
  • Behavioral health
  • Residential services
  • Peer support is strongly preferred.

Recovery Requirements

The House Manager must demonstrate a minimum of 180 days of sustained sobriety prior to employment in this position.

Additional Guidelines

  • House Managers may allow residents to use their personal cell phone at their discretion; however, this is not required and should be exercised in accordance with program expectations. Phone use should be coordinated prior to, and used with supervision at the Life Recovery Center. 
  • The House Manager must maintain professional conduct at all times and uphold the mission and values of Southeastern Life Center.
