Where You Will Work   

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

Under general supervision, provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership in the scheduling and prioritizing of contracting activities at your assigned site, overseeing safety, quality, and performance of outside services contractors, and serving as site expert and company representative interfacing with contractors and multiple disciplines within the company on contracting activities.

 

  • You perform contracting activities through the administration of contract requests, participation in sourcing activities and award recommendations, onboarding and offboarding of contractors, and issuing routine correspondence while ensuring contracts are maintained and up to date, payment methods are in place for prompt payment, and invoices are reviewed and approved.
  • You collaborate with Area Planners and Supervisors in long‑range planning and scheduling for major production shutdowns requiring outside services support, including job identification, job priority, outside service needs, material requirements, budget forecasts, and contractor coordination.
  • You lead and drive collaborative sourcing efforts in outsourcing activities, including insourcing and outsourcing decisions, development of technical scopes of work, and contractor performance activities.
  • You establish and monitor planned contractor schedules, review and assist in prioritizing work, and review and report on contracting budgets, run rates, and forecasting.
  • You monitor and report safety, health, and environmental requirements, verify manpower and skill adequacy, and ensure quality standards are met.
  • You provide guidance to operations and maintenance staff on contract control processes, serve as technical expert on contracting activities, develop tools and methods to support departments in communicating contractor requirements, follow up on contractor work quality and completion, master a working knowledge of the company’s contracting standards, programs, and goals, and perform other duties as requested.

What You Bring To Freeport

  • High school diploma or GED AND seven (7) years specific experience in maintenance, supply chain, or operations within a mining or manufacturing environment OR
  • High school diploma or GED AND seven (7) years related experience in maintenance, supply chain, or operations within a mining or manufacturing environment including specific Planning experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Accounting, Engineering or related field AND three (3) years related experience in maintenance, mining or manufacturing operations or a related field
  • Working knowledge of contracting activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with (CAS) Contract Administration System
  • Deadline compliance with multitasking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with ISNetworld
  • Experience managing over $1M in contractors spend
  • Project Management experience, including: bidding, bid analysis, and bid selection

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $73,500-$101,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.  What We Require   

  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.  
  • Candidates must pass all required training and/or testing.  
  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation. 
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English 
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Position is in busy, non-smoking office
  • Location requires mobility in an office environment
  • Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, and walk
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
