Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motorsport, and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset composite products on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composites materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment.

Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex®, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys. Our Cetex products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form in a variety of engineered thermoplastic resins including PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

About the Role:

The Intern position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop professional skills within a dynamic work environment. This role is designed to provide meaningful exposure to composites manufacturing and characterization, enabling the intern to contribute to real-world tasks and initiatives. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals to support defined projects, enhancing their understanding of industry practices and workplace expectations. Through this role, the intern will build foundational skills, receive constructive feedback, and develop a professional network that supports future career growth. Ultimately, the internship aims to prepare the candidate for successful entry into their chosen field by fostering practical, hands-on experience and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture of test laminates/specimens and data analysis for properties of laminates from two material categories (Thermoplastic and High Temp. Thermoset).
    • Intern will be responsible for learning and executing:
      • Best Practices regarding the manufacture of laminates.
      • Preparation of test specimens including conditioning.
      • Execution of uncured prepreg physical testing and cured laminate mechanical testing.
  • Assist team members with daily tasks and ongoing projects to support departmental goals.
  • Conduct research and gather data to contribute to reports, presentations, and decision-making processes.
  • Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions to learn about project planning and execution.
  • Help maintain organized documentation and update databases or tracking systems as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure clarity and alignment on assignments.

Proficiency in office software enables the intern to efficiently complete research, documentation, and presentation tasks. Preferred skills like time management and problem-solving help the intern handle multiple assignments and contribute innovative ideas to projects. Familiarity with composite layups and mechanical testing enhances the intern's ability to engage with technical aspects of the work and gain deeper insights. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing an Engineering, Material Science or related degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with common office software such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Willingness to participate in hands on work with materials and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Interest in and desire to learn about composites.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a professional setting.
  • Must be able to work in a lab environment 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in a related field.
  • Familiarity with composite layups and mechanical testing (ASTM/SACMA Standards).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in diverse and inclusive environments


Pay range:  $25 - $32/hr (depending on level completed in school)
