Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This position offers the opportunity to provide specialized, high-acuity care to critically ill cardiovascular and post-operative cardiac surgery patients in a nationally recognized academic medical center.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled critical care nurse with excellent clinical judgment, advanced assessment skills, and experience caring for complex cardiovascular patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular and post-operative cardiac surgery patients.

  • Perform continuous patient assessments and monitor for changes in hemodynamic and neurological status.

  • Care for patients recovering from procedures including CABG, valve replacements, aortic surgeries, and other complex cardiovascular interventions.

  • Manage ventilated patients, invasive monitoring devices, chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, arterial lines, central venous catheters, and vasoactive medication infusions.

  • Administer medications, blood products, and advanced cardiac therapies safely and accurately.

  • Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, cardiologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Respond rapidly to medical emergencies and provide life-saving interventions as needed.

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and discharge planning when appropriate.

  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.

  • Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

  • Current BLS Certification required.

  • Current ACLS Certification required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent CVICU, Cardiovascular ICU, Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU), or Critical Care nursing experience required.

  • Previous experience caring for post-open heart surgery patients is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and titration of vasoactive drips preferred.

  • Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to perform effectively in a high-acuity environment.

Important Assignment Requirements

  • This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital.

  • Local candidates will not be considered.

  • Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.

  • Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
