Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Medical-Surgical/Orthopedic Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This position offers the opportunity to care for patients recovering from orthopedic procedures, traumatic injuries, and a variety of medical conditions in a nationally recognized academic medical center.

The ideal candidate is a skilled, compassionate nurse who excels in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing exceptional patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult orthopedic and medical-surgical patients.

  • Perform patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.

  • Monitor patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, fractures, joint replacements, and traumatic injuries.

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.

  • Assist with pain management, mobility progression, wound care, splint and cast assessments, and post-operative recovery.

  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.

  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physicians, therapists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, mobility precautions, rehabilitation, and discharge instructions.

  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.

  • Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

  • Current BLS Certification required.

  • Current ACLS Certification required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical, Orthopedic, Trauma, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred.

  • Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple patients while delivering safe, high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Important Assignment Requirements

  • This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital.

  • Local candidates will not be considered.

  • Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.

  • Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
