Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Stepdown Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This position offers the opportunity to care for a diverse population of high-acuity medical and surgical patients requiring close monitoring in a fast-paced academic medical center.
The ideal candidate is a strong, adaptable nurse with excellent clinical judgment, telemetry experience, and the ability to manage multiple patients with complex needs.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult Stepdown patients with medical and surgical conditions.
Perform ongoing patient assessments and monitor for changes in condition.
Provide care for patients requiring continuous telemetry and close observation.
Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other ordered treatments safely and accurately.
Recognize and respond promptly to cardiac, respiratory, and neurological changes in patient status.
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.
Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Current BLS Certification required.
Current ACLS Certification required.
Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.
Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital highly preferred.
Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
Important Assignment Requirements
This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital.
Local candidates will not be considered.
Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.
Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to start date.
