Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Stepdown Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This position offers the opportunity to care for a diverse population of high-acuity medical and surgical patients requiring close monitoring in a fast-paced academic medical center.

The ideal candidate is a strong, adaptable nurse with excellent clinical judgment, telemetry experience, and the ability to manage multiple patients with complex needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult Stepdown patients with medical and surgical conditions.
  

• Perform ongoing patient assessments and monitor for changes in condition.
  

• Provide care for patients requiring continuous telemetry and close observation.
  

• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other ordered treatments safely and accurately.
  

• Recognize and respond promptly to cardiac, respiratory, and neurological changes in patient status.
  

• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  

• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
  

• Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  

• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
  

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.
  

• Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.
  

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  

• Current BLS Certification required.
  

• Current ACLS Certification required.
  

• Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.
  

• Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital highly preferred.
  

• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  

• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
  

Important Assignment Requirements

• This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital.
  

• Local candidates will not be considered.
  

• Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.
  

• Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to start date.
