Greets and receives patients into the health care facility. Responsible for accurate and timely processing of patient demographics and insurance information. Communicates and supports hospital departments using scheduling system as appropriate. Obtains electronic signature for consent to treat and patient financial obligation. Provides excellent customer service and uses strong written/verbal communication skills. This position is the first impression of WVU Healthcare to the patient. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree in a related medical field such as medical assisting or medical office administration. EXPERIENCE: Experience in a medical office setting. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include obtaining demographic/billing/insurance information, completing managed care responsibilities, preparing consent forms, collecting payments, directing patients to financial counselors, preparing patient identification armbands, balancing receipts, following up on accounts, initiating various screenings and eligibility checks, maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA, providing information about insurance and hospital procedures, performing medical necessity checks, answering phone calls professionally, scheduling patients, ensuring compliance with hospital and governmental regulations, communicating professionally with clients and staff, and participating in service improvement processes. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS include frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling; visual acuity; ability to exert force; manual dexterity; ability to move throughout work area; ability to sit or stand for extended periods; reading and comprehension ability. WORKING ENVIRONMENT includes frequent interruptions, confined office space, fluorescent lighting, noise from office machinery, high volume fast-paced environment, exposure to communicable disease, and daily interaction with patients and staff. SKILLS AND ABILITIES include computer software proficiency, knowledge of reporting unsafe conditions, ability to perform repetitious duties, attention to detail, organizational skills, memorization ability, understanding of medical insurance requirements, interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, excellent communication skills, basic medical terminology and third party payer knowledge, knowledge of time of service collection procedures, and ability to follow computer downtime procedures.
