Our cardiac surgeons perform more than 1,000 open-heart procedures per year – more than any other cardiovascular medicine facility in New Jersey. Our program has a distinguished three-star rating – the top rating – from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Adult Cardiac Surgery Report for patient care and outcomes in Isolated CABG, CABG/AVR and Mitral Valve Repair/Replacement. The three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Atlantic Health among the elite for heart surgery in the United States and Canada.

U.S. News & World Report continues to rank Morristown Medical Center in the top 50 hospitals nationwide for cardiology & open heart surgery.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for collaborating with the interdisciplinary surgical team to evaluate, plan, and implement patient assessments and management of for the post open-heart patients. Specializes in Cardiac Surgery Critical Care and recommends appropriate course of treatment through medical diagnosis while working closely with the surgeons and intensivists.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Supervises treatments and obtains medical records, evaluates patients, order tests or scans, diagnoses diseases, and prescribes medications and prescriptions.

2. Provides post operative care of the cardiac surgery patient in the Cardiac PACU and Cardiovascular ICU.

3. Specializes in cardiac surgery and provides subject matter expertise and treatment.

4. Performs procedures such as central and arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, suturing.

5. Partners with surgeons and intensivists in developing treatment plans and advises physicians on changes in a patient's condition.

6. Monitors and ensures accuracy of patient medical records.Ā 

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
