Job Title: Second Shift Manager
Department: Facilities
Reports To: Senior Facilities Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt


Position Summary
The Shift Manager provides leadership, coordination, and support across all departments during second shift operations. This role serves as the primary management presence on second shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations while supporting departmental leaders and employees. The Second Shift Manager acts as an extension of the Senior Facilities Manager and leadership team, overseeing facility operations, maintenance activities, safety initiatives, quality standards, policy enforcement, and operational continuity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary management representative for second shift operations.
  • Provide support, guidance, and oversight to second-shift supervisors and department leaders.
  • Act as a backup and resource for leadership personnel as needed.
  • Assist in resolving challenges and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement across all departments.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure timely completion of repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Monitor facility and equipment conditions to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Support maintenance planning, scheduling, and prioritization of work orders.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of workplace safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections, facility walkthroughs, and hazard assessments.
  • Participate in accident investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Support safety training initiatives and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Ensure consistent application and enforcement of company policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Support production leadership with employee concerns and behavioral issues.
  • Support quality initiatives and ensure adherence to established quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance operational effectiveness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct and support internal audits related to safety, quality, housekeeping, and operational compliance.
  • Assist with external audits and regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Monitor corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Provide shift updates and communicate operational concerns to the leadership team.
  • Facilitate communication between shifts to ensure continuity and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing, industrial, production, or facility environment.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and supporting multiple departments preferred.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Knowledge of facility operations, maintenance processes, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ability to enforce policies and procedures consistently and professionally.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience conducting audits and supporting compliance initiatives.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other operational software systems
