Role Overview
PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are seeking a Production Supervisor – Farrowing (Apex Farm in Mound City, SD) to support farrowing operations at one of our genetic nucleus farms.
In this role, you will provide hands‑on leadership for the farrowing department while partnering closely with other supervisors and site leadership to ensure exceptional animal care, efficient production flow, and accurate data and record management within a 2,800+ head genetic nucleus sow farm.
You will supervise daily farrowing operations, set priorities for the team, and coach employees to meet production goals while maintaining PIC’s standards for animal welfare, safety, biosecurity, and environmental compliance. This role requires sound judgment, strong people leadership, and the ability to solve day‑to‑day operational challenges in a fast‑paced production environment.

This role is based at the APEX facility in Mound City, South Dakota. Limited travel is required approximately 5–10% based on production needs. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
The salary range for this position is between $53,000 - $65,000 USD per year. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
You Will
- Possess an understanding and application of procedures and concepts within the farrowing department and basic knowledge of other departmentsÂ
- Set priorities for the farrowing team to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with other SupervisorsÂ
- Make decisions that are guided by policies, procedures and business plans; you will receive guidance and oversight from the Site ManagerÂ
- Supervise the daily activities of farrowing production teamÂ
- Hold formal supervisory responsibilities, such as coaching employees to meet daily deadlinesÂ
- Use judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problemsÂ
- Use tact and diplomacy to exchange information and handle sensitive issuesÂ
- Train novice employees on the most current Standard Operating ProceduresÂ
- Ensure animals are moved and efficient animal flows are maintainedÂ
- Ensure multiple areas on the farm are sanitized and washed using high pressure equipmentÂ
- Verify accurate and timely production information and records are maintainedÂ
- Ensure the timely treatment of sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals as required, and following the guidelines for timely euthanasia as requiredÂ
- Ensure barn maintenance, office cleanliness and laundry duties are completeÂ
- Ensure daily animal husbandry tasks are completedÂ
- Implement change plans in accordance with farm needsÂ
- Implement and hold others accountable for following the Company’s animal care policies and procedures, safety program, bio-security protocols as well as compliance with all environmental laws and proceduresÂ
- Complete the required tasks of all other duties as assigned necessary, for the care of the swine and/or swine facilityÂ
- Travel a maximum of 5-10%, based on production needsÂ

Requirements
Basic Requirements
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience within contemporary swine production systems, partnered with proven resultsÂ
- Farrowing and/or agricultural experience is a plus
- Able to manage a team of 8+ employeesÂ
- Proven experience working with culturally diverse teams in a fast-paced environmentÂ
- Proven ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines & maintain accuracyÂ
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Â
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems in a production environmentÂ
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications; ability to learn new software programsÂ
- Proven knowledge of contemporary record keeping systems within contemporary swine production systemsÂ
- Ability to work hours needed operationally, which can vary frequently and include weekend, evening, holidays and emergency situationsÂ
