Day in the Life
As a Log Quality Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all incoming log deliveries meet company quality standards. You will inspect each load of logs while trucks are on the scales, verifying specifications and identifying any issues. Your daily work will also include operating mobile equipment, supporting log yard operations, assisting with equipment maintenance, and maintaining accurate log classifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Inspect each load of logs on the scales to ensure quality and specification requirements are met.
• Fill in for the Scale Operator and other positions as needed.
• Safely operate mobile equipment including hydraulic knuckle boom loaders, skid steers, cranes, and forklifts.
• Perform pre-start-up inspections and operational checks on equipment.
• Assist with log classification, sorting, and proper storage based on length and grade.
• Retrieve logs for drying operations and assist with loading shipments of green and dried logs.
• Provide backup support to crane operations as needed.
• Identify operational issues and clearly communicate them for resolution.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication and assist maintenance personnel when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the log yard and work areas.
• Follow all safety policies, including proper use of PPE and adherence to procedures.

Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing work conditions.
• Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment and follow all safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience operating mobile equipment such as loaders, cranes, or forklifts.
• Experience in the lumber, forestry, or manufacturing industry.
• Basic mechanical knowledge or experience assisting with equipment maintenance.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to inspect for quality and compliance.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety equipment.
• Ability to perform tasks such as climbing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in a variety of outdoor and industrial environmental conditions.
• Ability to maintain manual dexterity, depth perception, and peripheral vision for safe equipment operation.
