Day in the Life
As a Resaw Operator, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring the band mill and supporting equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and quality lumber production. Your daily work includes starting up and running the band mill, slabber, setworks, hydraulic pump, and carriage drive systems. You will select appropriate grades and band thickness settings, route lumber to the correct destinations, change saws and guides as needed, and help maintain efficient production throughout the sawmill. This role plays a critical part in maximizing lumber recovery, production quality, and safe mill operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Fill the wick tank at each scheduled saw change.
- Start up and operate the band mill.
- Operate the slabber, setworks, hydraulic pump, and carriage drive systems.
- Select the proper grade and band thickness settings.
- Ensure material is routed to the correct destination.
- Change saws and guides as required.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify operational concerns.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production goals.
- Follow all safety requirements, including PPE usage and adherence to company safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Sawmill Supervisor.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to learn, adapt to change, and work in a noisy industrial environment.
- Ability to follow all safety policies and wear required PPE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous sawmill experience.
- Experience operating sawmill, manufacturing, or industrial equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting production equipment.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety gear and procedures.
- Ability to perform tasks such as climbing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
- Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment.
