Position Summary:

The Supervisor, Security guides and manages safety and security services for a specified shift. Responsible for designated aspects within the department (examples include CCTV camera system, vehicle maintenance program and/or radio communications).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Protect the life and property of visitors, patients, and staff.
  2. Prevent theft, vandalism, arson, robbery, and other such offenses and investigate thefts, disturbances, and suspicious activities.
  3. Detect and prevent fire and safety hazards.
  4. Proactively patrol the hospital buildings and campus.
  5. Provide escort service and directional assistance to patients, visitors, and staff.
  6. Oversee the department payroll, schedule and attendance.
  7. Interviews, makes hiring recommendations and trains personnel. Provides input into performance appraisals for staff, disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  8. Responsible for the direct supervision of employees on assigned shift.
  9. Participates in employee investigations, participates in the interview and provides feedback.
  10. Releases deceased bodies from morgue.
  11. Assures and provides exceptional documentation of event/occurrences and provides appropriate notification and follow-through on all incidents.
  12. Provides input to the Manager, Security with regard to improving the effectiveness of the security program.
  13. Participates in security training for staff, including new employee orientation.
  14. Interacts professionally with hospital personnel, patients and visitors.
  15. Provides input to the Manager, Security with regard to operational procedures for hospital staff and performance improvement activities. 
  16. Attends management meetings as appropriate.
  17. Performs other related job duties as requested.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Security Administration, or related field.
  • One year of prior work experience in a Security Department within a large facility (preferably a hospital).
  • Must possess valid Michigan Driver’s License and be insurable under the hospital insurance program

 

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, Security Administration, or related field.
  • Three years of prior work experience in a supervisory role in a Security Department within a large facility (preferably a hospital).
