Job Title:  4oz. Pack End Operator

FLSA Exemption Status: Nonexempt

Job Summary:   The 4oz. Pack End Operator’s primary responsibility to is monitor, operate and maintain the Delkor machines, which packs sealed sleeves/cartons of 4oz. cups of apple sauce into shipping cases or trays, ensuring product and packaging materials meet all specifications as required.  The 4oz. Pack End Operator also monitors and operates the Palletizer and the product as it moves down the conveyor to be palletized, ensuring continuous and efficient production that meets customer specifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, operate and maintain the 4oz. Pack End equipment in a safe manner.
  • Monitors, operates & activates conveyors that moves product.
  • Observes flow of cartons on conveyor to determine whether cartons are filled and sealed according to SOP’s.
  • Ensure Date / Code markings are legible and accurate.
  • Verify the correct shipping cases are being used according to SOP’s.
  • Adjust and remove loosed or damaged product for continuous, efficient product flow to the palletizer.
  • Notify maintenance and supervisor as needed regarding major mechanical or production issues.
  • Control the Lot number usage and recording information, including checking the coders at start up, and during checks as needed to ensure they match customer specifications.
  • Changes the codes and dates within the Videojet printer system as needed per customer specifications and SOP’s.
  • Constantly monitor for foreign material risks as the cups are moved down the conveyor.
  • Constantly monitor for leaking or damaged product containers as they move down the conveyor.
  • May remove, discard, and record tallies of damaged or inadequate cup materials.
  • Responsible for manually re-packing, re-sealing and stacking reworked product into cartons and onto the conveyor.
  • Perform tests to ensure codes and sleeves are correct and glue seals are adequate according to specifications as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Loads new shipping cartons onto feed magazine, ensuring proper orientation for product case stacking according to customer specifications.
  • Uses a glue gun to reseal boxes as needed.
  • Loads specified Hot Melt adhesive into glue pots as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining the hourly count of cartons.
  • Ensure pallets are stacked correctly from the Palletizer according to Customer Specifications.
  • Monitors and maintains the Palletizer machine, along with pallet wrapping operation of finished cartons.
  • Communicate with Forklift drivers to ensure completed pallets of product are transferred efficiently to continue flow of product.
  • Responsible for removing jammed or damaged product on the conveyor, ensuring smooth & efficient product flow to the palletizer.
  • Manually stack empty pallets for removal.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area around their 4oz. Line work station, including around and under machines and equipment.
  • Other duties, as needed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic math, reading, writing and literacy required.
  • Ability to identify all machine and work center stop buttons, machine guards, belts, hoods, doors and safety warnings, among other items, to ensure safety and efficient operation of assigned machines.
  • Previous experience, aptitude and/or willingness for hands-on mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Basic Computer skills strongly preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn correctly at all times in the Production Area.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of management and maintenance.
  • Ability to safely use sharp instruments, hand tools, mechanical tools (such as wrenches, screwdrivers, 

etc.) and a Non-Powered Pallet Jack.

  • Ability to safely use a hot glue gun and replace the glue stick as needed.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment where priorities change frequently.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.

 

Working Environment:  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The 4oz. Pack End Operator is required to work on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat and/or cold.   The associate continuously works near moving mechanical parts, and is exposed to pinch points and hot surfaces.   The associate will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise. 

The associate will regularly need to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally push or pull up to 75 pounds.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms; see, talk and /or hear. The associate will be required to lift, climb, bend, stoop and crouch.  The associate is required to stand for up to a 10 hour period (with breaks).
