East Cooper Montessori Charter School is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and relationship-centered Behavior Specialist (or Behavior Support Assistant, depending on qualifications) to join our team.

This position is about far more than managing behavior. We are looking for someone who believes that every behavior communicates a need and who is passionate about helping students develop the skills necessary to be successful learners, classmates, and community members.

Our school culture is grounded in Montessori principles, restorative practices, and the belief that strong relationships are the foundation for student success.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students across all grade levels.
  • Provide proactive behavior coaching and social-emotional support.
  • Assist teachers in implementing classroom behavior supports and de-escalation strategies.
  • Support students during moments of dysregulation using calm, respectful, and restorative practices.
  • Collect behavior data and help monitor intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to develop individualized behavior supports.
  • Help facilitate restorative conversations and problem-solving meetings.
  • Support schoolwide culture-building initiatives and positive behavior systems.
  • Participate in MTSS meetings and contribute to intervention planning.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in educational, behavioral, counseling, or therapeutic settings preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, counseling, behavior analysis, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Experience with Positive Behavior Supports, restorative practices, Conscious Discipline, Montessori philosophy, or trauma-informed practices is highly desirable.
