General Manager, Fitness Sales and Operations

D1 Training East Cooper is seeking a driven, hands-on General Manager to lead the day-to-day business operations of our performance training facility in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

This is not a desk-management position. We are looking for a leader who enjoys selling, developing people, building relationships, managing performance, and growing a business.

The General Manager is responsible for sales, membership growth, retention, staff leadership, financial performance, facility operations, and the overall member experience. You will work closely with our Head Coach and coaching team while taking ownership of the business side of D1 East Cooper.

If you are competitive, organized, comfortable asking for the sale, and excited by the opportunity to build a high-performing fitness business, we want to meet you.

What You Will Own

Sales and Membership Growth

  • Lead membership and personal training sales

  • Conduct consultations, facility tours, and trial workout conversations

  • Present training options and confidently ask for the sale

  • Manage the prospect pipeline from lead to appointment to show to close

  • Ensure consistent lead follow-up and reactivation

  • Drive adult membership growth, referrals, and recurring revenue

  • Develop grassroots, community, and business-to-business lead-generation opportunities

  • Monitor sales KPIs and coach the team to improve performance

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the D1 East Cooper team

  • Partner closely with the Head Coach, who leads coaching quality and programming

  • Conduct regular staff meetings and individual coaching conversations

  • Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable

  • Manage staffing and scheduling based on business needs

  • Recruit, onboard, and develop talent as needed

  • Create a positive, energetic, performance-driven culture

Business and Financial Operations

  • Own the day-to-day operation of the facility

  • Manage revenue and operating KPIs

  • Review financial performance and budgets with ownership

  • Manage payroll and labor efficiency

  • Forecast membership, revenue, staffing, and operational needs

  • Maintain accurate reporting through D1 and Mindbody systems

  • Identify problems early and develop solutions

  • Operate independently while maintaining clear accountability to ownership

Member Experience and Retention

  • Build strong relationships with members, athletes, and families

  • Ensure every member receives a world-class D1 experience

  • Identify at-risk members before they cancel

  • Oversee member communication, freezes, cancellations, and retention efforts

  • Develop referral opportunities from existing members

  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, high-energy facility

What We Are Looking For

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 3 or more years of management, leadership, sales, or business-development experience

  • Demonstrated ability to sell and build customer relationships

  • Experience leading and holding a team accountable

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Comfort working with goals, KPIs, budgets, and performance reporting

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and operate independently

  • High personal accountability and a results-oriented mindset

  • Genuine interest in fitness, athletics, health, or performance training

  • Ability to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on facility and community-event needs

Fitness-industry management experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to consider a high-potential leader from sales, hospitality, retail, athletics, coaching, or another performance-oriented environment who demonstrates the ability to learn the business quickly.

Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary: $50,000 to $60,000 annually, based on relevant leadership, sales, operations, and fitness-industry experience.

The General Manager is also eligible for:

  • Monthly performance incentives tied to measurable facility results

  • Up to $18,000 annually in performance bonus opportunity

  • Additional incentive opportunity tied to sustained facility profitability

  • Employer-sponsored health benefit option

  • Employer health contribution of up to $8,000 annually as part of the agreed fixed-compensation package

  • Complimentary D1 Training

  • D1 professional development, systems, playbooks, and business coaching

  • Leadership and career-growth opportunities

Strong performers have the opportunity to earn approximately $65,000 to $80,000 or more in total annual compensation as the facility grows.

What Success Looks Like

A successful General Manager will build a facility that consistently generates new leads and converts them into members, grows recurring membership, retains existing members, builds personal-training revenue, develops strong community relationships, maintains disciplined staffing and labor management, creates an accountable team culture, and delivers an exceptional member experience.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who wants ownership of results, not simply responsibility for completing tasks.
