The qualified Quality Assurance Inspector for Dekoron Wire & Cable (Dekoron) is responsible for verifying, testing, and documentation of manufactured and in-coming product for conformance to quality specifications. Quality Assurance Inspector personnel are authorized to inspect and test all manufactured and in-coming products.

Typical hours for this position are Mon-Friday 10p.m. to 8 a.m. Training will take place on day shift with those hours typically set at 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon-Thur.

Essential Duties:

  • Strive to achieve continuous improvement in all activities, processes, and projects
  • Understand and adhere to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no advanced notice.
  • Ability to perform quality inspections under demanding and stressful conditions without supervision.
  • Offer meaningful suggestions.
  • Calibrate and maintain records of measuring and testing equipment.
  • Learn all inspection and testing processes, procedures and work instructions.
  • Write and maintain quality documents as required by ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of quality records and their proper documentation.
  • Paperwork organization, accuracy, and legibility are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of document traceability is paramount.
  • Ability to perform inspections and tests including, but not limited to:
  • Tensile and elongation testing
  • Deformation testing
  • Insulation and conductor resistance testing
  • AC & DC withstand voltage testing
  • Dekabon testing
  • Wire alloy verification
  • Bare wire circular mil area calculation
  • Work as a team member with other QA members and other Dekoron employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • High School education or GED is required; technical training is preferred.
  • Experience in machine operating, is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Hands-on wire and cable experience is preferred.
  • Experience in inspection methods and techniques, as well as experience with inspection equipment, lab testing, hand tools and gages
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes and principles
  • Knowledge of ISO9001:2000 quality systems
  • Basic math and solid computer skills (Word, Excel and e-mail)

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Ability to read and write clearly.
  • Ability to organize works tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with all levels of employees.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic, statistics, and other specific mathematical applications.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including the designs, uses, repairs, and basic maintenance.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers specific requirements and specifications.
  • Self-starter; ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong housekeeping practices and organizational skills desired.

  • Ohms resistance bridges
  • Insulation resistance meter
  • Impact tester

  • Pi-tape
  • Gram weight scale
  • Densimeter
  • Circulating ovens

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that can be noisy.
  • Ability to monitor and review information, detect and assess problems, and to identify corrective actions.
  • Ability to process information, to compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, and verify information or data.
  • Ability to perform physical activities which require considerable use of arms and legs; as well as, whole body movement. Such activities may include balancing, lifting, walking, climbing ladders, stooping, and material handling for inspection or repair.
  • Ability to use hands for the regular stripping of insulation from wires, removal of jackets from cables, and cutting and stripping metal armors. These activities are done with a variety of hand tools.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE.
  • Ability to move objects and materials of at least 50lbs.
  • Indoors, environmentally controlled with occasional outdoor work in all types of weather.
