Job Description

Manages, coordinates, and facilitates anesthesia services and resources for the hospital. Implements the hospital policies and practices to achieve the hospital's vision, mission, and values.

Job Responsibility

  • Manages daily operations of the anesthesia department.
  • Documents need for changes in staffing/budget and makes recommendations.
  • Responsible for work schedules and assignments, on-call arrangements, and emergency changes in collaboration with anesthesia staff.
  • Interviews, selects, and hires qualified personnel; counsels and evaluates personnel and terminates when necessary; implements personnel policies.
  • Accurately documents presence in operating room to maintain accurate patient records.
  • Demonstrates the proper use and storage of controlled substances as per department, hospital, and state regulations.
  • Accountable for quality improvement for all anesthesia practice and services.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff to develop and implement action plans to resolve identified problems and evaluate corrective action to assure effectiveness.
  • Ensures that department and hospital policies and procedures are communicated appropriately and applied consistently.
  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
     

Job Qualification

  • Master’s Degree from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), required. 
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, and Certified by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • 6-8 years of clinical experience and 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.
