Job DetailsJob Location: Newark, NJ 07105Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $140.00 - $143.00 HourlyJob Shift: EveningPosition Summary The Correctional Medical Physician at Essex County Correctional Facility, located in newark NJ, serves as the lead physician at a designated correctional facility, overseeing and managing medical program activities in alignment with CFG Health Systems’ goals, objectives, and industry standards. The physician ensures high-quality inmate patient care, collaborates with the Health Services Administrator, and acts as a liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the company. This role includes evaluating clinical programs, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and accreditation standards.  Evening Shift - 3-11 QualificationsPosition Requirements Education & Licensure Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school. Completion of a U.S.-based residency program. Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of the assigned facility. Active and unrestricted prescriptive authority with DEA and Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) registrations. Experience Minimum of two years of public health experience. Previous correctional healthcare experience preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills. Assertive, empathetic, and objective approach to patient care. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records (EHR). Ability to command respect and confidence of both inmates and staff. Active CPR certification. Functional Demands Ability to pass all required health screenings and security clearances. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for nursing staff and detainee/inmate care.   Position Responsibilities Perform and document routine and sick-call examinations according to NCCHC, ACA, PBNDS, NJ 10-A, and CFG Health Systems standards. Supervise and manage the Medical Unit to ensure effective healthcare delivery. Order and interpret diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, and ancillary services as needed. Provide treatments, prescribe medications, and manage health conditions within state regulations and approved formulary guidelines. Document all patient care accurately, thoroughly, and timely. Promote a therapeutic, professional, and ethical environment for inmates. Develop, implement, and supervise policies, procedures, and protocols for inmate healthcare. Determine appropriate levels of care and required medical equipment. Collaborate with correctional staff, healthcare providers, and administrative leadership to ensure continuity of care and compliance with standards.
