PACCAR Global Powertrain organization is seeking a motivated Senior System Performance Verification Engineer to support integration, verification, and optimization of aftertreatment thermal management including 48V electric systems. The engineer will work closely with calibration, controls, electrical, mechanical, and vehicle engineering teams to deliver robust powertrain solutions and advanced engine aftertreatment systems that meet performance, durability, fuel economy, and emissions requirements. This position is located at PACCAR Technical Center, Mount Vernon, WA.

 

Job Responsibilities 

 

  • Develop and execute validation plans at component, subsystem, powertrain, and vehicle levels to identify system integration issues
  • Define and execute testing activities to support engine aftertreatment development in the test cell environment to evaluate fuel economy improvements, system efficiency, thermal performance and emissions 
  • Collaboration with Engine Integration, OBD calibration and Vehicle Integration teams to successfully integrate aftertreatment functions
  • Recommend, develop, and execute continuous process improvement to improve product quality, reliability, and durability of the PACCAR engine aftertreatment system
  • Stay aware of new and upcoming aftertreatment technologies and testing methods
  • Complete reports and presentations to communicate findings, draw conclusions and give recommendations on next steps
  • Mentor and help develop less experienced engineers
  • Maintain positive working relationship with other groups at the PACCAR Technical Center and other PACCAR divisions

 

Qualifications & Skills 

 

  • 5+ years of relevant engineering work experience in the automotive industry
  • B.S. in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Engineering or related discipline (MS preferred) 
  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engine operation and powertrain systems
  • Understanding of modern vehicle architectures and trade offs
  • Familiarity with CAN communication protocols and vehicle networks
  • Experience working with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, or powertrain development organizations
  • Understanding of heavy-duty diesel emissions regulatory requirements including diagnostics
  • Understanding of current diesel exhaust aftertreatment technology (DOC, DPF, SCR & DEF)
  • Knowledge of engine control system strategies and how they pertain to diesel engine and aftertreatment systems 
  • Scripting and data analysis experience desired
  • Experience with engine test cell/vehicle data collection, analysis and test planning is preferred
  • Proficient with engine calibration, data collection tools (ATI Vision/Vector Canape, Cummins Calterm/ETAS INCA & Vector CANalyzer) and engine control systems
  • Must be self-directed; possess excellent analysis, communication, and presentation skills; must be organized and take a rigorous approach to engineering projects
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to manage personal workload and have the willingness, flexibility, and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, including international travel
