What you will be responsible for:

We are looking for an experienced MEPF engineer to join our integrated architecture and engineering team focusing on volumetric prefabricated offsite construction and onsite assembly of single-family homes. You will own the design and implementation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems of the product, from the design and documentation that lives in our models to the energy compliance package filed for every home we build.

This role encompasses both sides of our business. On the product side, you will innovate, develop, and maintain MEPF design, details, and specifications as the product evolves. On the project side, you will produce permit documentation including Title 24 energy documentation, collate HERS documentation, and respond to jurisdiction comments so every home permits cleanly and on schedule.

Here at Aro, our engineers take a product version from ideation through NTA approvals, then works closely with the plant and the field until it builds cleanly. This position requires regular visits to the company's Sacramento, CA plant and to active job sites in the South Bay.

What You'll Do:

  • MEPF design and documentation: Develop and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for the core house product, including calculations, drawings, schedules, and specifications in Revit and coordination of the corresponding Onshape documentation.

  • Energy compliance, per home: Produce and manage Title 24 compliance documentation for each home, coordinate HERS rater verification, and manage submissions through state and utility portals from application through final.

  • Code compliance: Ensure MEPF scope adheres to CMC, CEC, CPC, CBC, CALGreen, and Title 24 requirements, including the documentation supporting our state Factory-Built Housing approvals.

  • Change requests and RFIs: Respond to manufacturing and field inquiries in your scope, mark up released sets in Bluebeam, and see changes through to updated FIDs, Field Kits, and BOMs across affected homes.

  • Product improvement: Lead MEPF cost and performance initiatives, including vendor outreach, quote and sample review, shop drawing review, and implementation planning with Procurement.

  • Part and material specification: Specify equipment and materials, generate and maintain part numbers, and keep procurement data current as the product changes.

  • Cross-discipline coordination: Work daily with Architecture, Structural, the Onshape modeling team, plant operations, and site operations so MEPF scope installs cleanly in the factory and in the field.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in MEPF design for residential or light commercial buildings.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction administration for Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing scope (answering RFIs, reviewing submittals, etc.)

  • Working fluency with California codes and Title 24 energy compliance; experience with energy modeling tools and HERS processes.

  • Experience with Revit and Bluebeam and/or a mechanical software like SolidWorks.

  • PE or EIT preferred.

  • Offsite or modular construction experience a plus.

  • Willingness to jump in and provide support across the company outside of domain expertise.

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to join an outstanding start-up team and grow a purpose-driven company from the ground up.

  • Competitive salary package.

  • Medical/dental/vision benefits.

  • Equity in the company.
