The Google Home Camera team is looking for a high-caliber engineer to lead the evolution of our video experiences. In this role, you will be a key driver in how millions of users interact with their home security footage, moving the needle on critical metrics like "Time to First Frame" and stream reliability. This role offers a unique blend of foundation-level architecture (optimizing our core video player) and high-visibility feature work (shipping modern SwiftUI experiences using Google’s latest Material 4 design system).

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
