Position Summary  

 

As a two-way information conduit to internal teams, the R&D Laboratory Analyst will perform laboratory testing of moderate to high complexity, document results and provide accurate and valid data analysis.   

Essential Functions/Key Deliverables   

 

  • Responsible for the testing and analysis of product to determine causes of failure  

  • Conducts product testing to confirm adherence to specifications and warranty eligibility 

  • Conducts chemistry, chemical and compatibility testing processes in the labs 

  • Operates analytical instruments, such as Infrared spectroscope, ICP-OES, and automatic testing equipment to determine if products meet specifications 

  • Tests beverages to be packed in CANPACK cans for their fit for purpose 

  • Performs analysis with the use of electrochemical devices (TAFEL, EIS)  

  • Independently manages day-to-day metallurgical evaluation testing in the laboratory and address moderately complex problems 

  • Support laboratory operations and coordinate equipment calibration and maintenance 

  • Update inspection and test procedures as needed  

  • Work closely with the Labs, QA, R&D and Operations Teams 

  • Coordinate CSC, Technical Development and Technical Service testing with Lab Technologist Clearly communicates technical information and/or results effectively to colleagues and design teams on a regular basis 

  • Understands and is able to clearly communicate and clarify customer requirements as needed. 

  • Identify where additional data / analysis is needed. Maintains and diagnoses critical equipment, including calibration and maintenance schedule 

  • Leverage internal R&D and plant labs to establish laboratory best practices. Utilizes equipment in a safe operating manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards 

  • Identify key lab safety points and complete risk assessments as needed 

  • Develop training materials and facilitate training programs as necessary 

  • Document and enforce laboratory safety rules. 

  • Perform any other duty reasonable corresponding with the role. 

  

Knowledge/Skills/Experience  

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry required; Master’s Degree is preferred 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Chemistry lab, preferably in a can industry lab or in a beverage industry lab 

  • Practical experience with lab instruments such as Infrared Spectroscope, ICP-OES Spectro-photometer, etc. 

  • Proven ability to produce accurate technical analysis and lab reports 

  • Knowledge of Electro Chemistry required 

  • Knowledge of Polymer Chemistry, TAFEL and EIS testing would be a plus  

  • Strong math, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize workload  

  • Proven problem-solving skills 

  • Proven communication skills and the ability to work well with others 

  • Ability to evaluate information quickly, identify key issues, and formulate conclusions  

  • Knowledge of statistics and Statistical Software, MS Office
