About the Role:
The Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and/or CNC lathes to manufacture precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This position requires attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and adherence to all safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience operating manual and/or CNC lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of machining practices, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills..
Preferred Qualifications:
- CNC programming experience.
- Experience with G-code editing and machine setup.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes to produce precision-machined parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials.
- Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to maintain product quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues as needed.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep work area clean and organized using 5S and good housekeeping practices.
- Collaborate with supervisors, quality personnel, and team members to meet production goals.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as required.
- Work safely in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and metalworking fluids.
Work Schedule
- Full-time
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
