Job DetailsJob Location: Murfreesboro, TN 37127Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeJob Category: Engineering Job Summary:  Primary job responsibilities are to use engineering expertise and experience to: (i)investigate, design, develop or contract, and test concepts for improving the performance metrics of the company for existing and future product manufacturing areas; (ii) research new manufacturing processes, develop specification for new capital equipment, install, debug and run-off new or improved processes, and train others in the operation and maintenance of these processes; and (iii) develop procedures and OPL’s, supporting the transition of the new processes/machines as they are transitioned to production.   Job Duties and Responsibilities:   Manage capital improvement projects as assigned by developing a RFQ, acquiring proposals and quotes, creating and staying within a timeline and fiscal budget, and providing both written and verbal updates to all levels of the company. Design and Implement changes / modifications to production machines and tooling by creating and or revising technical drawings, specifying components, supervising fabrication by the tool room and subsequent installation and testing. Install and test new production machine designs, including concepts and tooling, and the development of fully functioning machine(s). Support die casting and injection molding operations, including tooling and process troubleshooting. Support and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems in manufacturing operations Design and develop mechanical components using CAD tools Perform engineering calculations (stress, load, thermal) to support design decisions Provide hands-on engineering assistance, instruction and training to all levels of the company on set-up techniques and procedures, preventative maintenance and operation of production machines and tooling, and development of one-point lessons and work instructions. Perform dimensional inspection of prototypes, samples of product, tooling, and machine components to verify designs and changes then provide a written and or verbal report of the results. Investigate manufacturing processes, components, methods, tooling that will improve company metrics improving quality, reducing scrap and increasing efficiencies, including contact with equipment/tooling vendors. Travel to the other locations within the company, vendors, customers, trade shows, and training as required. Create, review and revise Process/Design FMEA, control plan and APQP documents for both new and existing processes. Independent judgement and discretion in making decisions Requires periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pulling, crawling, climbing and liftingup to 30 lbs. Performs other duties, as requested or required. Qualifications Education and Experience:    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field  3–5+ years of engineering or project experience (automotive preferred) Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, calculations, and manufacturing processes Experience using CAD systems (preferably AutoCAD), spreadsheets, word documents, databases and email programs (for example Microsoft Office Suite). Experience with Injection Molding and/or Die Casting. Vocational/Technical School/work experience related to machine shop practices. Strong analytical capabilities and mechanical aptitude. Experience with Process/Design FMEA’s, control plans and (APQP) Advanced Product Quality Planning. Possess a basic understanding of machine control systems such as safety devices, PLC’s, HMI’s, compressed air logic and hydraulics. Minimum five years prior ‘hands-on’ experience in a manufacturing plant as an engineer.  Familiar with TS 16949 & ISO 14001 Quality & Environmental Systems.
