Job Summary:
Operate mechanical equipment and machine tools to product precision metal parts. Operate a variety of machine tools, lathes, milling machines, boring machines, saws, grinders, manual machines and computer numerical controlled machines, to product precision parts and instruments. Â Uses blueprints, design sketches or other documents to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product. Â Performs a wide variety of tasks to ensure inventory accuracy as well as a high quality standard. Â

- Performs duties under direct, daily supervision.
- Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
- Positions work piece on a drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
- Checks accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications
- Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instrument such a micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
- Observe and/or listen to operating machines or equipment in order to recognize need for adjustments or repairs.
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
