ABOUT THE ROLE
The EHS Specialist will coordinate the environmental, health, and safety initiatives. They will assist site leadership with implementing site-specific policies and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory and Copan Diagnostics EH&S requirements, prevent injuries & illnesses, reduce workers’ compensation costs, and help create a strong EH&S culture.
RESPONSABILITIES
- The EHS Specialist in Collaboration with Management, retains the ability to halt any company functions proving unsafe.Â
- The EHS Specialist oversees the facility with safety as the focus.Â
- Collaborate with all department managers and supervisors to enforce safety guidelines through effective disciplinary action as per each case.Â
- Identifying environmental, health & safety risks and hazards in the workplace and implementing prevention programs.Â
- Advising site leaders and employees on how to minimize risks and hazards in the workplace and improve environmental, health & safety performance.Â
- Assisting the site in complying with applicable environmental, health & safety requirements.Â
- Training site employees on environmental, health & safety requirements.Â
- Assisting sites with implementing Copan Diagnostics EH&S programs, policies & standards, and EH&S management system.Â
- Training production managers to recognize hazards and risks and supporting production employees in identifying and controlling hazards and risks.Â
- Conducting environmental, health & safety inspections in the workplace.Â
- Supporting implementation of emergency procedures (such as fire alarm drills).Â
- Offering support for all general environmental, health & safety advice to all employees. In collaboration with department managers.Â
- Enhancing support to report all injuries, illnesses, and near misses to the EHS Manager, Employees, and Site Leadership.Â
- Completing site-specific EH&S reports and communicating performance with the site leadership.Â
- Tracking environmental, health & safety inspection and audit findings to closure.Â
-  Assisting site EHS Manager with establishing and maintaining a site environmental, health & safety council.Â
- Sharing environmental, health & safety lessons learned and encouraging a learning culture on environmental, health & safety.Â
- Partnering closely with all site leaders to create, maintain, and improve our safety environment.
KEY COMPETENCES
- A bachelor’s degree in a safety-related program or equivalent work experience.Â
- 3-5 years’ experience in environmental, health & safety experience in a biomedical manufacturing organization. Â
- Bilingual in Spanish is a must. Must be able to speak, write, and read in English and Spanish.Â
- Strong communication, presentation, training and facilitation, and project management skills are essential.Â
- Able to work independently as well as within a team. Â
- Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles.Â
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.Â
- Process safety management experience desired.Â
- Exemplary customer service skills and attention to detail.Â
- Strong analytical skills in analyzing safety & health data.Â
- Strong Microsoft softwareÂ
- Preferred KPA Flex experienceÂ
- Ability to stand for large amounts of time.Â
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
