Position Summary:

  • The gas fuser is to fuse gas pipe, and saddles. Handling as builds, locating new gas lines and hand digging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fusing on 2" and 4" Gas Pipe, Fuse Saddles, Gas Tie Ins. As builds for projects, locating new gas lines, hand digging.
  • Online training to receive certifications and completion of courses on fusing qualifications required before any work is to be performed.
  • The ability to lif up to 60 lbs. required.
  • Prepare the work site, including cleaning and removing debris and possible hazards.
  • Assists the skilled worker, such as operator, locator, or foremen in completing their skilled tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify utilities and watch dig crew dig to prevent utility hits.
  • Maintains every piece of equipment, such as daily maintenance of machines (oil, grease, water, etc.) and restocking trucks with supplies to ensure the crews have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.
  • Digs trenches and fills potholes.
  • Wear all the appropriate safety apparel and follow all established safety practices and procedures.
  • May be required to work overtime, including evening hours, weekends, and possible travel to out-of-town assignments.

Success Factors/job competencies:

  • Ability to work in various physical positions includes lifting heavy objects, walking and standing for long periods of time, and performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to learn and understand utility locates and read construction drawings.
  • Ability to learn and gain knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in telecom work.
  • Ability to learn and gain knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

 Qualifications required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 1-2 Years’ experience in transport hauling, equipment operating.
  • Class A CDL Driver License required.
  • Basic Knowledge with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

 Working Conditions / Environment: This position operates in a field environment. 

This role routinely requires the ability to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. The physical demands described in this job description represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is labor intensive, with lifting required. 

 Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather. 

Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, it will be required to wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.
