Established in 2023, CommuniCare+OLE is the result of a union of two health centers with a deep roots in their respective communities and reputations for providing high-quality primary care to all, regardless of insurance or ability to pay: OLE Health of Napa and Solano Counties and CommuniCare Health Centers of Yolo County. Building on a legacy established by both organizations in 1972, CommuniCare+OLE is a network of federally-qualified health centers with 17 sites across Napa, Solano, and Yolo Counties. It offers comprehensive care, including medical, dental, behavioral health and substance use treatment, nutrition, optometry, pharmacy, care coordination, referrals, and enrollment assistance to more than 70,000 individuals, and no one is turned away due to lack of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay. Many services are offered outside of its sites, including mobile health, home visiting, and community and school-based programs.

JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW:

The Medical Director collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer to support and develop the integration of primary care services agency-wide. The Medical Director is responsible for developing the clinical staff and optimizing clinical operations of the CommuniCare+OLE Care Teams needed to provide high quality services. The Medical Director will supervise medical providers located at the clinic site location. They will be expected to collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Director of Clinical Operations, and the Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance Program. As a primary care provider, the Medical Director will also provide primary care medical services for a panel of patients. This includes: medical diagnosis, treatment services and managing quality health care services to patients.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/TRAINING 

  1. Education: 
  • Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine physician, or Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA), with at least three (3) years of directly related experience. Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred.
  • Active State of California license.
  • Federal DEA registration.
  • Board certification.
  • Maintains CMEs as required for certification renewals.
  1. Experience/Lived Experience: 
  • At Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. 
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. 
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. 
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. 
  • Strong interest in nutrition and health education preferred. 
  • Strong interest in substance use disorders preferred. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish/English highly desirable. 
  • Ability to lead, supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise. 
  1. Special Skills/Training: 
  • Awareness of electronic health records
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis
  • Experience in a community health center is also desirable
  • Data analysis and quality improvement
  • BLS Certification required


 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. 

Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners to support the strategic initiatives of CommuniCare+OLE  related to family medicine services. Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives that support the strategic plan for CommuniCare+OLE. 

2. 

Participates in the Clinical Leadership Team 

3. 

Provides mentorship and support for the professional development of PA, FNP, MD/DO providers and Nurses at their site 

4. 

Provides input to annual performance reviews of Family Medicine providers. 

5. 

Provides leadership for disciplinary issues for provider and nursing staff relating to family medicine care 

6. 

Establishes a routine of informal clinical reviews of individual providers’ clinical skills and provides coaching or support as needed on an individual or group basis for family medicine providers 

7. 

Attend appropriate staff and administrative meetings.  

8. 

Coordinate, schedule and supervise PA, FNP and MD/DO student rotations 

9. 

Participates in recruitment, hiring and training of PA and FNP, RN and MD/DO primary care staff 

10. 

In the absence of CMO, may carry out the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the CMO In conjunction with the CMO and other Medical Directors, conducts/coordinates medical provider trainings 

11. 

Conducts/coordinates other trainings as requested by CMO or CEO or DCO 

12. 

The Medical Director may be assigned additional duties, from time to time, by the CMO, as needed for the benefit of the organization 

13. 

Performs other duties as assigned
