Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Trades & Custodial Manager and the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian position is responsible for performing general facility maintenance, classroom preparation, building supervision and custodial duties at the District's indoor facilities, and organizing and prioritizing work based on facility schedule and recreation program needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Complete room set-up and tear-down to accommodate scheduled activities including recreation programs, meetings, special events, and rentals.
  2. Conduct indoor facility and equipment inspections, including but not limited to AEDs, vehicles, tables and chairs.
  3. Perform minor repairs, and initiate work orders for facility repairs.
  4. Maintain and clean indoor facility space.
  5. Respond to safety and emergency requests.
  6. Maintain inventory log of facility supplies and equipment.
  7. Follow procedures to open and close indoor facilities in accordance with facility schedules.
  8. Serve as support for outside rentals and perform check-in and check-out procedures.
  9. Provide exceptional customer service when responding to customer inquiries or requests for assistance.
  10. Transport necessary equipment, supplies, and program guides to facilities. Receive items shipped from vendors and distribute them to related facilities.
  11. Perform snow and ice removal operations using snow removal equipment on sidewalks and apply salt/ice melt at key access points.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate trucks and other light automotive equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and manual tasks.
  • Ability to operate building maintenance equipment and effectively utilize cleaning supplies.

Education and Experience:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

Special Considerations:

  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 30 lbs on a monthly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 30 lbs.
  • Exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated equipment and machines.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
