Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, adhering to established clinical protocols and procedural standards.  
  • Prepares patients for outpatient cardiovascular procedures, ensuring accurate documentation, required laboratory testing, and coordination with the cardiovascular team.  
  • Assists physicians and nursing staff in delivering safe, patient-centered care throughout cardiovascular procedures.  
  • Performs patient assessment and monitoring, including vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythms, level of consciousness, and vascular access sites.  
  • Operates and interprets cardiovascular monitoring equipment, including hemodynamic systems, electrocardiograms (EKGs), Holter monitors, and cardiac event monitors.  
  • Supports procedural activities by performing scrubbing, circulating, and imaging-related duties while maintaining procedural efficiency and sterility.  
  • Responds to patient emergencies by assisting with CPR, defibrillation, cardioversion, venipuncture, and medication administration under physician supervision and within scope of practice.  
  • Provides patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, follow-up care, and transfers when necessary.  
  • Maintains accurate patient records, documents test results, communicates significant findings, and ensures proper reporting and archival of diagnostic data.  
  • Contributes to quality improvement, staff development, customer service initiatives, and the evaluation of new procedures, technologies, and equipment. 

Certification Required:

  • Registered Radiologic Technologist RT(R) or Nuclear Medicine Technology RT(N)
  • Current License in the state of which the teammate works as an RTR or RTN.
  • ACLS and BLS certification.

Education Required:

  • ​​Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Radiography or Radiologic Technology with an RTR or RTN. 

Work Experience Required:

  • ​​Requires 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to anticipate patient and unit needs. Ability to teach procedures to the staff.
  • Ability to support cardiac caths, PCI, pacemaker implant, lead revisions, battery replacement, and some peripheral angiograms and interventions

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to work staggered 8-10 hour shifts. Ability to work under stressful conditions and difficult situations.  Exposed to blood and body fluids.  Exposed to radiation.  Ability to assist patients in transfer.  Ability to perform lifting, pulling, and pushing activities related to patient positioning/transfer and stocking of supplies.  

 If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.  Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
