Position Title: Lathe and Tip Forming Operator

Department: Swiss

Reports To: Production Manager

Role Summary: This role is responsible for operating and maintaining OmniTurn CNC machines and related equipment to perform tip forming, TIG welding, and boring operations for precision medical components. This role ensures products are manufactured to exact specifications while complying with quality standards, GMP, and regulatory requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up and operate OmniTurn CNC machines to manufacture precision medical device components.
  • Perform tip forming operations on tubing and small medical parts to meet dimensional and cosmetic specifications.
  • Conduct TIG welding on medical-grade materials (e.g., stainless steel, nitinol, or other alloys) following validated procedures.
  • Perform boring operations to achieve precise internal diameters and tight tolerances.
  • Load and unload parts, adjust machine parameters, and monitor production cycles.
  • Inspect parts using visual inspection, pin gauges, ball gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
  • Verify parts meet engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
  • Document inspection results and production data per quality system requirements.
  • Identify nonconforming products and report issues to Quality or Engineering. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES
  • Experience operating OmniTurn CNC machines or similar Swiss/turning equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with tip forming, TIG welding, and boring operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight tolerances.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR LICENSES REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or machine certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and/or setting up centerless grinding machines (medical device or precision machining experience preferred)
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. 
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced. 

SHIFTS

  • 1st Monday- Thursday 6:00 AM-4:30 PM and 2nd Shift: Monday - Thursday, 4:30 PM - 3:00 AM, includes shift differential
