We are seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Millwork Engineer to lead the engineering and technical execution of high-end custom millwork projects from concept through manufacturing and installation. This role is responsible for converting architectural designs, field measurements, and client requirements into accurate, production-ready engineering packages that ensure efficient fabrication and exceptional craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in luxury residential millwork, custom cabinetry, and architectural woodwork, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, CNC production, drafting standards, materials, hardware, and joinery. This individual will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineering staff, and help establish engineering best practices that improve quality, consistency, and production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and technical development of custom millwork projects from design through fabrication and installation.
  • Produce and review detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, cut lists, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, design intent, specifications, and field measurements to create accurate production packages.
  • Engineer custom cabinetry, closets, wall paneling, architectural casework, ceilings, countertops, and specialty woodwork.
  • Review projects for manufacturability, material selection, hardware integration, joinery methods, and installation requirements.
  • Partner with project managers, designers, estimators, CNC programmers, production teams, and installers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, dimensional issues, and production challenges before fabrication begins.
  • Support CNC programming, nesting optimization, and manufacturing planning to maximize efficiency.
  • Maintain organized engineering documentation that meets company and manufacturing standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters while promoting drafting standards and engineering best practices.
  • Assist with quality control during engineering, production, and field installation.
  • Recommend innovative engineering solutions for complex custom millwork applications.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workflow, quality, and manufacturing performance.
  • 7+ years of experience in architectural millwork engineering, millwork drafting, or technical design.
  • Extensive experience with luxury residential millwork, custom cabinetry, or high-end architectural interiors.
  • Strong background engineering custom casework, cabinetry, closets, wall systems, countertops, and specialty millwork.
  • Advanced ability to develop production-ready shop drawings and fabrication documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of CNC manufacturing, woodworking machinery, fabrication processes, and production workflows.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, Rhino, KCD, or similar millwork engineering software.
  • Strong knowledge of millwork materials, hardware, joinery techniques, construction methods, and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, construction documents, specifications, and field dimensions.
  • Experience collaborating with production teams to resolve engineering and manufacturing challenges.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy, quality, and deadlines.
