A grocery Meat Department Butcher/Wrapper’s main duties include but are not limited to, preparing meat and seafood products from receipt to processing the items and then placing them in the display cases for customer purchase.

Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Works under immediate supervision of the Meat Department Supervisor. Primary job functions require exercising independent judgment. Abides by pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The successful candidate will play a fundamental role in achieving our customer satisfaction and revenue growth objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction.
  • Greet customers when entering or leaving department and provide answers to customer inquiries regarding meat department items.
  • Engages and maintains a professional working relationship with vendors.
  • Cuts, trims, and bones carcass sections or prime cuts to reduce cooking cuts such as roasts, steaks, chops, stew cubes and grinding meat. Knowledgeable and capable of preparing all cuts of meat offered in an acceptable manner.
  • Cuts and weighs steaks and chops for individual servings.
  • Tends electric grinder to grind meat
  • Shapes and ties roasts
  • Wraps and weighs portions of meat and poultry on scales, prints item tags indicating weight, type of meat, date and price.
  • Packages meat orderly in meat trays
  • Stocks and rotates meat and poultry display cases and rotates merchandise to ensure freshness and quality. 
  • Checks display cases to ensure freshness dates. 
  • Makes sausage and stuffed items.
  • Provides customers with special meat cuts requested by customer.
  • Estimates requirements and orders of meats and seafood supply.
  • Receives, inspects and stores meat upon delivery.
  • Records quantity of meat received and issued to Deli/Bakery
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the department by cleaning the meat grinder, meat saw and scale and any other pieces of machinery or surfaces in the department including all meat display cases. 
  • Maintains the wrapping machine in a clean and working order. 
  • Report mechanical problems with any equipment through the use of Work Order Forms.
  • Answer customers' questions and get with the meat department supervisor or grocery manager if you are unable to solve the issue.

Specific vision abilities are required by this job and does include using peripheral vision.
